Structural Design
Services:
Debbert Engineering offers a range of structural services
to the industrial,
institutional, residential and commercial business sectors. Our services are focused in the following
categories:
|
|
|
- Structural Design
- Forensic
Engineering
- Structural
Assessment
- Municipal
Structures
- Structural
Rehabilitation
|
|
|
|
Structural Design: Structural design services begin with
determining the client's needs and evaluating options. The choice of building materials is
influenced by many factors such as architectural design, building location,
material availability and fire resistance ratings. Debbert Engineering is familiar with the
design and construction processes for structures consisting of concrete,
structural steel, timber, pre-cast concrete and composite material systems, so
that we can provide a design to suit the client’s needs and budget.

|
|
|

|
Forensic Engineering: Forensic engineering is required when structural distress
or failure occurs. Debbert Engineering
can review the structure and offer a professional opinion with respect to the
cause of the failure as well as offer remedial recommendations and design.
|
|
|
Engineering Assessments: Our
assessment services include site reconnaissance, intrusive or non-destructive
testing and evaluation of building systems.
Depending on client needs, our evaluations may include assessment of
code compliance, potential for expansion, change of use, or serviceability
issues. We can also include budgetary
construction cost estimates and capital needs forecasting based on life cycle
cost analysis.

|
|

|
Municipal Structures: Municipal
structures such as bridges, culverts, headwalls, transformer vaults and valve
chambers are designed to different standards than typical building
structures. The Ontario Provincial
Standard Specifications and Drawings, Ministry of Transportation and local
municipal and city standards apply to these types of structures. Debbert Engineering is well versed in these
design requirements and can provide design, evaluation or rehabilitation
services for these unique structures.
|
|
|
Structural Rehabilitation: Debbert
Engineering offers structural rehabilitation services including field review
and testing, evaluation, reporting and rehabilitation design services. Whether the structure is constructed of
masonry, concrete, steel or timber, evaluation of the cause of structural
deterioration is essential in determining the correct rehabilitation
procedure. Factors such as disruption of
service, public safety, scheduling, funding and cost control must all be
considered when determining the rehabilitation design. From site investigation to completed
rehabilitation, Debbert Engineering can supply the necessary expertise to
increase the lifespan of your structure.

evaluation services, Debbert Engineering provides the following related
services to industrial clients:
- Pre-Start Health
and Safety Reviews
- Hoisting System
Capacity Design and Evaluation
- Structural
Evaluation/Design for new mechanical units, platforms and catwalks.

In October of 2000 the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Regulation (OHSA) was revised to include a requirement that employers perform a
Pre-Start Health and Safety Review (PHSR) on a qualifying, newly installed or
modified piece of equipment. The PHSR
must be conducted by a Professional Engineer with knowledge and experience
related to the safety requirements for that particular type of equipment and
must identify any non-conformances with respect to the OHSA and applicable
standards. Debbert Engineering has
experience in performing risk assessment and evaluating the physical hazards
and guarding requirements outlined in the applicable standards. For more complex systems, Debbert
Engineering assembles an evaluation team including Registered Industrial
Hygienists and/or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering specialists from affiliated
firms to assist in the PHSR.
Hoisting systems are common to most industrial plants,
however their locations and capacities are often not determined until the plant is
in production. Debbert Engineering can evaluate the
structure, and provide new or rehabilitation design or compliance review, depending
on the client's needs and circumstances.
The introduction of new rooftop equipment can result in
increases in snow loading on a roof structure in addition to the new equipment
load. In these cases, evaluation of the
impact of new equipment loads may necessitate reinforcement of the roof structure. Debbert Engineering has the experience to
evaluate this type of loading and designing cost effective solutions that
minimize disruption to production.
