Structural Design of Japan Food Canada Inc. Warehouse and Site Retaining Walls (2008)
For Dancor Construction Development, Brampton, ON    

Construction Cost: $5,000,000. 

Project Description: Structural design and contract administration for the design of a new frozen, cold and dry food storage warehouse in Brampton.  Challenges included design of retaining walls of various sizes and configurations around the entire site due to the sloped site conditions.  
 

 



     
 

Esplanade Evaluation and Reconstruction – Hamilton Federal Building (2008-9)

Construction Cost: $450,000

Project Description: Evaluation of the exterior esplanade for the entire site, incorporation of barrier free access elements and redesign of  concrete paving, stairs railings and features. DEi also provided rehabilitation design, contract administration and site review services for this project, which is currently under construction.  Other projects for this site included review of the barrier free access study and updating of general building and fire plans.
 

 
     
 

Structural Design of Racking Storage Addition to Daimler Chrysler Plant, Brampton, ON
For Alberici Constructors Inc.,  Burlington, ON

Construction Cost: $2,200,000.

Project Description: Structural, architectural (mechanical  and electrical through Callidus Engineering), site services design and contract administration for the design of a new rack storage addition to the Daimler Chrysler Plant in Brampton.  This was the second project for Alberici and Daimler Chrysler and included a tight timeline and use of helical piles to overcome some geotechnical challenges.  Our successes in these projects have helped us to maintain a good working relationship with the client and the contractor, leading to additional assignments.
 

   
     
 

Glamour Paint System Structural Pits, International Truck and Engine Corporation
(Navistar) Chatham, ON (2007)

Construction Cost: $2,100,000.

Project Description: Design of five interconnected paint pits of various depths and configurations up to 16’ in depth.  Design challenges included extremely poor soils conditions requiring a raft mat design for water uplift and watertight concrete in accordance with the ACI 350 design code. DEi has enjoyed a long-term relationship with Navistar, providing on-going structural design services for building systems, hoisting systems and Pre-Start Health and Safety reviews of hoist installations.
 

 
     
 

Elgin County Detention Facility - Courtyard Rehabilitation (2007)

Construction Cost: $285,000.

Project Description: Demolition and design of concrete replacement of Men’s and Ladies courtyard area within a medium security detention facility in London.  This project was a repeat assignment as DEi rehabilitated courtyard Zone5 in 2005.  DEi provided design and site review services in this high security environment.
 

 
     
 

Medway Creek Pedestrian Bridges (2008-9)

Construction Cost: $250,000.

Project Description: Structural design of two twenty meter span pedestrian bridges for the City of London.  These bridges are critical links in the City of London Park system and will also provide access for municipal service vehicles.  These structures will be located in Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA’s), therefore the designs will minimize impacts on the ESA both during construction and over their design life span.  These bridges will be constructed in the summer of 2007.  This project is one of numerous assignments successfully completed for the City of London Parks Planning Department.
 

 
     
 

Chickopee Tube Park Chalet, Kitchener, ON (2006)

Project Description: Structural design of  Banff trusses with mitred joinery for local log truss fabricator.
 

       
     
 

Tourism London Boardwalk, London, ON (2007)

Project Description: DEi provided the structural design for a new boardwalk at the Tourism London facility adjacent to Saunders Pond, London.  The design of the boardwalk respects this Environmentally Sensitive Area by utilizing construction techniques and design that minimize disruption to the natural environment.  Extremely poor soils conditions, with bearing strata up to 60 feet below grade, were overcome by use of helical piers and a steel bracing system hidden below the timber walkway.  This was one of  several Parks projects that required a more comprehensive knowledge of engineering to achieve an optimal solution.
 

 
     
 

Structural Assessment of  Manholes and Transformer Vaults for London Hydro - 2009

Project Description: Structural investigation and evaluation of numerous manhole and vault structures for London Hydro.  This is an ongoing assignment that started in 2005 and continues into 2010.  Report recommendations, vault rehabilitation, redesign and site review are the primary services offered by DEi.  Our staff are trained in the  use of our testing and evaluation equipment and in confined space and fall arrest procedures.
 

 
     
 

Replacement of Transformer Vault NT 35 for London Hydro - 2009

Project Description: Structural investigation and evaluation of this vault in the previous year resulted in the planning and scheduling of the vault replacement.  Design alternatives included cast-in-place and precast vaults.  Although larger and more expensive, the precast vault was chosen by London Hydro to minimize disruption to local downtown businesses and residents.  DEi provided planning and design for the project including traffic management plan, demolition plan, structural design, drawings, site and shop drawing review.  This was the third such reconstruction assignment undertaken by DEi for London Hydro.
 

 
     
 

Building Condition Evaluation of 500 Knottinghill Road, London, Ontario (2005)

A complete building condition assessment was provided to the building owners including site, structural, architectural mechanical and electrical elements.  The DEi team included members from affiliated firms that provided the M&E component of the evaluation.  Report documentation included lifecycle cost analysis including rehabilitation costs.
